Ami Porter has 25 years of private teaching experience in both piano and flute instruction. She has had many opportunities to perform in professional and semi-professional musical organizations as a flutist, vocalist, and actor. Ami instills a passion for and life-long love of music to her students through tailored individual instruction. As a composer and arranger of music, she encourages everyone to find their song and sing it!

It is my goal to leave a valley-wide legacy of individuals who have reached their piano playing goals. I am dedicated to making lessons available to everyone which is why my prices are so competitive. I understand that everyone learns differently therefore I teach very individualized lessons. Hailed for his “breathtaking virtuosity” (Albuquerque Journal) and his “rhythmic integrity, singing tone quality, and refinement” (Clavier), Swedish-American pianist Elias-Axel Pettersson has established himself as a formidable soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. A Mason & Hamlin Concert Artist, he has garnered prizes on the national and international level, and has been heard on national radio. Pettersson has collaborated with numerous artists, including violinists Krzysztof Zimowski, David Felberg, and Guillaume Tardif, violist Henk Guittart, Cantor Josh Perlman, and tenor Michiel Schrey. In 2008, Pettersson formed Duo Giocoso with French violinist Roland Arnassalon; in 2017, he formed Æterna Sirius with pianist Jessica Yam. Pettersson also champions contemporary composers such as Alan Belkin, Baptiste Cathelin, Alvin Curran, Drea Pressley Tischhauser, and Altin Volaj. Pettersson premiered Petroglyph for Piano (2011) by New Mexican composer Michael Mauldin, and performed in a recording of Gabriel Madden’s La Herse (2009), featuring a rare Sauter 1/16-microtonal piano. A frequent performer, lecturer, and masterclass teacher throughout the USA, Canada, and Sweden, Pettersson has also been a jury member for regional and national competitions, including the Canadian Music Competition and Prix Opus, among others. He has three albums on the Axel Records label, featuring works ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Janáček and Carl Vine. Pettersson is Artistic Director of Southwest Piano Festival, a summer festival he founded in 2015, and Director of Program Development for Arizona Piano Institute. He has studied with Paul Stewart, Sergei Babayan, Larissa Dedova, Douglas Humpherys, and Maribeth Gunning; he also played for André Watts, Jean-Bernard Pommier, Arnaldo Cohen, Pavel Nersessian, Dina Joffe, and the Guarneri String Quartet. I run my own school and have been doing so for nearly four years. I'm a part of the ASU music program and love teaching kids! I've had great success with students; even those who have never even touched the piano. I've taught students ranging from 4-40 years old. I hold annual recitals to give students a chance to showcase what they have learned.

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Shalvi D’Arcangelo has been a pianist for over 20 years and a music educator, fostering innovation and creativity for levels K-12, university and adults. Shalvi holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Concentrations in Piano, Piano Pedagogy, and Special Music Education) from the Crane School of Music, State University of New York College at Potsdam and a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the Glenn Korff School of Music, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In her free time Shalvi enjoys traveling, studying languages, reading, and continuing her personal research, which focuses on musical wellness and injury prevention for “small-handed” pianists.

After earning a Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, Corinne Walker studied voice with Ellen Faull for 11 years. Her former students include Audra McDonald, Sarah Brightman and Dawn Upshaw. Continued lessons with Todd Gordon, Seth Riggs; he taught Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand, David Archuleta. Corinne specializes in Classical and Musical Theatre Master's Degree in Music - Vocal Performance - Texas State University, San Marcos Bachelor's of Music - Vocal Performance emphasis - Brigham Young University Alexander Technique - Dr. Kurt-Alexander Zeller Seth Riggs Voice lessons and "Pop Singing Workshop" Member of National Association of Teachers of Singing ​ Corinne has appeared in dozens of Musical Theater productions and plays and sang opera in college.

Marcia Havlovic received her Bachelors Degree in Education with a major in Music from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI and began working on her Masters in Music Education from ASU. Mrs. Havlovic has been teaching piano lessons for over 25 years, as well as being a music educator for over 15 years. She was the choral, instrumental and general music teacher at Phoenix Christian School K-8 for 5 years, a middle school Band director in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for 4 years and has continued to teach piano privately as well. Now, a full-time piano instructor with a studio in the Marbella Vineyards, Mrs. Havlovic loves being involved in many of the events of the East Valley Music Teachers Association with her students. Mrs. Havlovic is also very proficient in all woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments and offers private lesson on those instruments for beginning/intermediate band students.

I have been teaching piano for over 30 years. I won many competitions in Korea and had many recitals. I have received a 4 year scholarship form the City College of New York (C.U.N.Y.) I have been a church musician helping worship services and accompanied many singers. My early music training was by my father who was a singer as well as a well known pianist from New York. I have experience teaching violinists from age 3 to age 80, teaching them how to hold the bow to preparing them for college auditions. I received my B.M. in Violin Performance from Utah State University where I studied with Rebecca McFaul and the Fry Street Quartet. I have eight years of teaching experience, including as adjunct faculty at USU. I studied Suzuki pedagogy with Cathy Lee and Allen Lieb. As a violinist, I have performed with the Utah Festival Opera, the Logan Quintet, East Valley Millenial Choir and Orchestra, and the American Festival Choir. I am passionate about teaching and the role of music in the world. Music can and should be fun as well as teaching you the vital skills of focus, resilience, and compassion.

Josh’s bio: “For over a decade, I have taught students of all levels the traditional Grand Manner style of playing. My mentors and coaching include many illustrious artist teachers such as Ruth Yandell, Nelita True, Robert Hamilton. As a performer, I have worked with multiple charities and organizations to bring classical music into the post-modern world through schools, non-profits, and more. I have been noted by many distinguished pianists, such as Paul Harvey Jr., for possessing a golden singing tone with a wide range of colors. The traditional Grand Manner style utilizes the proven old Russian method of piano teaching combined with a disciplined focus on form, fluidity of motion, and the principle of a Golden singing tone.” Erin’s Bio: “For over 5 years, I have taught students of all levels the Russian method of piano technique. As a trained concert pianist, my passion is for piano students to find their correct form, fluidity of movement, and a Golden Sound through my expertise in the Grand Manner technique.
