B
Series
We took everything we learned from more than a century of crafting fine pianos to create an instrument to inspire the next generation of players. The result is an elegant, high quality lineup with a responsive keyboard and a clear, resonant tone.
Whether you’re a beginner, a budding virtuoso or accomplished musician, B Series instruments are an absolute joy to play. You won’t find a better piano at these prices.
Yamaha B1 Continental Console 43” from $75 per mo
The B1 has the height and width of a standard upright but it was designed without legs in order to decrease depth and occupy less space in the room. The price point isn’t that much lower than the B2 so unless you have a tight budget and need it to fit in a smaller room, the B2 is often a better choice.
Yamaha B2 Studio Upright 45” from $75 per mo
The B2 studio upright stands at 45” tall and is a great option for those who prefer the quality of the B3 professional upright but want to stay closer to the price point of the B1.
It comes in polish ebony, white polish, walnut polish and mahogany polish.
Yamaha B3 Professional Upright 48” from $95 per mo
The B3 Professional upright is the closest in quality to the U series uprights but in a more conservative price point. The length of the strings, the number of square inches of soundboard, and the over all scale design are similar to the U1 profession upright. It has tremendous dynamic range, lightening quick touch and is known for its warm, dark tone.
It comes in polish ebony, white polish, walnut polish and mahogany polish.

The CONS of a keyboard
The logic behind a keyboard purchase makes sense. “My kid is just starting out so I’m not going to invest in a good piano until I know they are going to stick with it.” Unfortunately, the reason so many kids drop out is because the keyboard they have at home doesn’t feel anything like the piano they take lessons on and nothing like the piano they will be playing at their recital. It’s tough to get motivated to practice on an imitation instrument.
- The spring loaded “weighted” action won’t feel like your teachers piano or your recital piano. So no matter how many hours you practice, you won’t develop proper finger strength or technique. If you are going to spend the time practicing, you want to get the most out of it. Getting 50% results for 100% effort isn’t a recipe for success.
- The knock off piano sound coming through small speakers won’t have the dynamic range of your teachers piano or your recital piano. That means your fortissimo notes won’t be very loud and your pianissimo notes won’t be very soft. This makes it difficult to be expressive and really feel the emotion behind the piece. If you’re trying to master a piece of music, you want it to sound good.
- Most keyboards (especially under $2K) are more like toy pianos than real pianos. Not only do they sound and feel different, they are often loaded with gimmicky bells and whistles which are more of a distraction than a learning tool.
- Starting your kids on an inexpensive keyboard is like buying them a set of plastic clubs and having them hit nerf gold balls in the back yard. Maybe they can learn swing technique and ball contact but they won’t get very far. It’s hard to take lessons seriously if you’re not practicing on an inspiring instrument.
- Zero resell value. Your $900 keyboard will maybe fetch $100 on Craigslist if you can find a buyer. A piano dealership isn’t going take it on trade. Now your in the hole $900 and right back at square one shopping for a real instrument.
- You’ll outgrow it within months not years if you stick with lessons.
The CONS of a used piano
Again, the logic behind buying a used piano makes sense. “My student is just starting out so let’s save some money and find a used one online’. My father and grandfather were piano technicians and if you ask any piano tuner, they will tell you that Craigslist is a graveyard for expired pianos. Most are 40+ years old, migrate here from other climates, need expensive action regulation, haven’t been maintained regularly and a lot of them won’t hold a tune”. This makes the idea of a $50 Yamaha rental very very attractive. If you want to use your rental credit to buy a used piano down the road, we’ll sell you one that’s in tune with a good warranty and a 5 year trade up guarantee.
- The shopping process is time consuming and confusing unless you’re an expert
- No warranty, no refunds
- Tech labor is expensive (don’t be fooled by “just needs tuning”)
- Moving is expensive (especially if you pay move it home and then pay to move it to the dump)
- Used pianos are hard to resell
- Many used pianos are moved here from other climates and don’t do well in AZ weather.
- Unless you bring a piano technician with you there’s no guarantee that it will even hold a tune.
- Craigslist is a graveyard for expired pianos.
- Renting a Yamaha is a much better value
